Sightseeing

Wellington sits at the foot of the Blackdown Hills with loads to see nearby. The Wellington Monument (TA21 9PB) stands tall at 175 feet and offers stunning views across Somerset. It's open daily from dawn till dusk with free entry and parking.

Sheppy's Cider Farm (TA21 0LR) is just 10 minutes away. They've been making cider for over 200 years! Tours run daily 10am-4pm and score 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor. We love their apple cake in the café after a tour.

Taunton's just 7 miles east with its castle (TA1 4AD, 4/5 TripAdvisor) housing the Somerset Military Museum. Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm, tickets £8 adults.

The Museum of Somerset (TA1 4AA) is brilliant for rainy days. It's got everything from dinosaur fossils to Roman mosaics. Free entry, open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm, 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor.

Pet Friendly

Wellington is fantastic for dog owners! The Blackdown Hills have miles of footpaths where dogs can run free. I recommend the circular walk from Wellington Monument - it's about 3 miles with stunning views.

The Green Dragon pub (TA21 8LS) welcomes dogs in the bar area and garden. They even keep treats behind the bar! Their Sunday roasts are legendary.

Sheppy's Cider Farm allows dogs in outdoor areas and the farm shop. The staff are always happy to bring water bowls.

Wellington Park has a dedicated dog exercise area, perfect for early morning walks before heading back for breakfast at your cottage. Remember to pack towels for muddy paws after countryside walks - especially before using the hot tub!

Top 3 attractions you have to see in Wellington

Wellington Monument is a must-visit. This triangular obelisk commemorates the Duke of Wellington's victory at Waterloo. The National Trust completed a £3.1 million restoration in 2021. The woodland walk around it is beautiful in autumn. One visitor wrote: "Worth the uphill walk for the views alone. We could see all the way to Exmoor on a clear day."

Wellington Park (TA21 8HR) is a Victorian gem right in town. It's got tennis courts, a bowling green, kids' play area and beautiful formal gardens. The bandstand hosts summer concerts on Sundays. The park won its 15th Green Flag Award in 2023. Open daily from 8am until dusk, free entry.

St John the Baptist Church (TA21 8QY) dates from the 14th century with incredible stained glass windows and medieval carvings. The tower climb (Saturdays 10am-12pm, £2) gives you panoramic views across Somerset. One TripAdvisor review says: "The volunteer guides know so much about local history. We learned the church bells were hidden during the Civil War to prevent them being melted down for cannons!"
