Westholme Lodge Reviews

Andrew
Arrived on the first day to find part of the driveway dug up to repair the gas supply. We didn't have hot water and had to use small electric heaters until the gas supply was reconnected on the evening of the second day. Using the driveway was a challenge until eventually repaired on the penultimate day. No proactive communication from the ownercaretaker related to the gas supply issues. Also no reply from the owner or Sykes regarding a partial refund. TV was missing from the playroom and the welcome pack was only shared halfway through the stay.

Beautiful property. We did New year together. Was great to have 3 generations staying together. Clean property, comfortable beds, good play room and great hot tub. High chairs, stair gates and travel cot provided. Plenty of space to dine together. Only downside, Sykes sent the guide late on last day of stay, so did have some challenge figuring things out.
An excellent, comfortable and well equipped property. Ideal for a family gettogether whilst exploring Exmoor and the coast. Would have benefited from instructions regarding recycling. Hot tap in Lynton bedroom wash basin too stiff to open. We had a very enjoyable holiday here.

We hired Westholme for the week to bring our extended family together for a holiday. The house provided everything we needed! The kitchen with its large family table was wellequipped and provided a good gathering space at mealtimes. The garden was a winner for the toddlers, and the barbecue combined with the patio to give a great evening. We used the hot tub only once, but it was much appreciated! The beds were comfortable, and made for good nights sleep. Westholme is wellsituated for all the outings we planned to Withypool, Exford, Dunkery Beacon, the West Somerset Railway, Lynton and Lynmouth and Dunster Castle as well as being in lovely Minehead itself. And its very close to a rapid electric car charging point!

Perfect base for our family holiday. Loved the breakfast kitchen. Nice hot tub. Comfortable beds and plenty of in and outdoor spaces for a large group. Great position with a very short walk into town. Plenty of off road parking. Wonderful local walks and very close to Dunster.
Gorgeous, comfy, homely property. Well maintained and Kitchen well stocked. Shops, pubsrestaurants and beach within walking distance. We were a family group of 13 and all had a lovely weekend!
The house was a great size for our group. It was unfortunate that the three bedrooms upstairs didnt have any kind of bathroom or sink even to share between them, so they had to use the bathroom on the middle floor. Whilst the house was very comfortable, it is in need of maintenance a lot of black mould on the ensuite ceilings, lights not working, shower door didnt shut causing water to get spill onto the floor double room ensuite. Some of the ceilings downstairs looks like water has been leaking so they are brownyellow and makes it feel a bit dirty. The garage light flashed on and off all night which kept some of the guests on that side of the house awake. Kitchen was great loads of plates and cutlery, and we were impressed that there was a huge kitchen table as well as a dining room. It was nice to have 13 of us all sit together. The hot tub was extremely hot, so no one could stay in for long and we were advised to not touch the temperature. We kept the driveway gate closed when we were in the house and although the Garden was a good size, as it wrapped round the whole house and is on a main road, I couldnt take my eyes off my dog for a second as he would have been able to walk straight under the gate onto the road. As this property allows dogs, I think its something to be mindful of. If there was a short fence to block off the driveway, it would have put my mind at ease. It would have been good to have a welcome packmanual on how to use appliances such as the coffee machine or speaker system in the kitchen. Sykes didnt send me the welcomeinfo email until near the end of our holiday which was unhelpful. Location was great and we didnt use our cars at all. Overall we had a lovely time away, the house just needs some maintenance black mould removal

Nicholas
The House is amazing and spacious . The furniture is all in keeping with a grand house. We will be back in the future, as my family all loved the house.
Robert
We had a lovely week at Westholme Lodge, the house was great for a group of families. The kitchen was big enough for everyone and had all that we needed. In the local area we enjoyed the steam railway, the beach and Dunster Castle.
We enjoyed Westholme Lodge, nice base for us to explore Somerset. Loads of space for our big family. We would definitely return. Had some issues but the maintenance guy came and fixed them The house could with some maintenance upkeeps like the lights on the decking didn't work, the speakers in the kitchen weren't working well.
Trevor
The house was amazing, by far the best equipped holiday house we have ever hired. Any questions were answered promptly. The location of the house was superb and we didnt travel far throughout the week and had the best family holibob ever. We will definitely return.
Denise
We were very happy with our stay for a family birthday, grandads 70th! The only draw back was no airers for drying clothes on wet days . We werent sure about the bin days as we had no information while we were there, so we contacted the housekeeper who I must say was very helpful.Denise
Fabulous Stay with my whole Family 10 Adults, 3 Children and 2 Dogs. Extremely spacious and comfortable. Very clean with lots of Kitchen Utensils, fantastic childrens playroom, and huge dining table able to seat all of us in Dining Room. Close to town, beach and amenities with lots of parking available on site. Highly Recommend Staying especially for large groups.
Ten of us stayed at Westholme for three nights to celebrate our 25th anniversary and my husbands birthday, perfect layout for us to enjoy. Comfortable lounge area, great kitchen diner, utility, large formal dining room worked well. Bed's were comfy. We were able to walk from the property along the sw coastal path to Porlock, which was a treat not having to take out the the cars over the weekend, with a welcomed dip in the hot tub upon our return, not all in at once!! On Sunday, we walked to Dunster. It was a great lunch in the Luttrell Arms Hotel. We also visited Dunster Castle on Monday, worth a look. Obviously, if you are not walkers there is a good bus service, also the taxis are not badly priced.
Michael
We had a lovely time second time weve stayed. Only comments I would make are there are quite a few cobwebs around, there should be a clothes horse or 2. We did washing 6 kids but had clothes draped everywhere. The first time we stayed there were tea towels but not this time. All in all though a very nice house.
Sheila
Westholme is a large comfortable house and our family of 12 including 4 children had a really good week there. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped and there was plenty of space and seating in the sitting room. We found the beds very comfortable and with 7 bedrooms there was plenty of room for everyone. We all enjoyed our stay there.
Michael
Lovely property and we had a great stay. Fourteen of us for my 70th birthday and new year. Kids had a great time.
Our stay at Westholme Lodge was enjoyable. The beds are extremely comfy and the duvets are lovely and thick. The kitchen is nicely decorated and a great place to socialise however please be aware the kitchen does not come with any salt & pepper, cooking oil etc so make sure you bring your own. The house has two living rooms which is great as it provides a separate space for the children to chill out whilst the adults can relax as well. The hot tub is a great addition however the water was not a high enough level so the jets were not usable as they squirted the water out of the hot tub. The location is great and a short walk to the beach and shops and a short drive to Dunster and Exmoor too. When we arrived there was only a half roll of toilet or less in each bathroom and no spares provided so we did have to go out and buy more quite swiftly as there were 14 of us staying there. The fridge is also quite small and we were not able to fit in all the food we had brought with us. Overall the lodge was a nice place to stay and there is a nice big garden and parking space enough to fit 45 cars on.
Great location and the facilities are excellent would thoroughly recommend a stray here.
The house was amazing it suited our families with all the bedrooms and garden space . The house was fully equipped with more than you would think ok . The location was perfect for accessing the town and beach but also local to view other areas . The beds were so comfy too. The only fault we could have is that the duvets were down feather filling and one of my family members is allergic to them but there was enough spares to compensate their bedding in their room .
Lovely spacious property, in very good order and well equipped. The living accommodation was great with a large kitchen diner, separate dining room, large lounge and a playroom. 10 minute walk to the main shopping street and 15 minutes to the beach.
Westholme was a truly wonderful house for our family stay ! We have for the last 10 years have had a holiday when the family get together and we have stayed in some lovely houses this has been the best so far for accommodation, cleanliness, comfort and a great homely feel . One of my grandchildren said it was a Mary Poppins house practically perfect in every way So thank you very much . Minehead is a nice town but the access to Exmoor and other wonderful places is second to none.
The welcome folder in the kitchen didn't contain user manuals for the kitchen appliances or hot tub, which would have been helpful. There weren't any oven gloves which means you have to use tea towels, which is a bit of a health and safety issue. The boxes for recycling were very small for such a large house so we couldn't put one of the bins out. The other confusing thing was the information app conflicted with the check out time as the 'So long, farewell' instructions said to be gone by 11am but the key safechangeover information said 10am. We ended up leaving in the middle at 10.30am. It would be nice to leave a dishwasher tablet for each day as we had to buy a box to be able to use the machine, which we left for the next occupant. We also have some feedback on the hot tub that we will share directly with the owner.
We had a wonderful stay. Westholme is a beautiful house and a lovely family home. We were celebrating family time together so.....perfect. Westholme has everything you could need and more! Great location for all that Minehead has to offer. We were sorry to leave.
As a group of 14, we were all very pleased with the accommodation booked for our annual New Year's holiday. The house was very spacious, comfortable and well equipped for large groups although can I suggest a second kettle be added. For reference for future winter guests, we found the bedrooms on the top floor cooler than the first floor which suited as the house was very warm indeed. The location was excellent for walking, shopping and eating out, all without having to take the car out. We would recommend eating at The Ship Aground pub in Minehead, the village of Dunster and also a short drive out to Exmoor to walk around and over the ancient Tarr Steps over the River Tarle which is now one of my favourite short circular walks ever!
