The Retreat Reviews

The property had recently been repainted sadly the smell fumes from this were still around when we arrived there. Also we experienced some challenges logging into the property WiFi, which were able to be resolved by the owner fairly promptly. In every other respect, the property was excellent hot tub delightful, recliner sofas and bed extremely comfortable, and it was mostly extremely clean there was some dust on mirrors from the recent painting but everything else spotless the kitchen was fairly well equipped couple of minor things the clock was missing a battery and knives were not super sharp, but these were minor niggles. It is in an excellent location and we did enjoy our weekend away at The Retreat.
The property was very clean and finished off to a high standard. It was cosy and comfortable. It was situated with walks close by and very close to the castle of Dunster which is owned by the National trust.
Theresa
This property was perfect location for what we required for the weekend and the host was amazing help with the local area. Hot tub was perfect for relaxing evenings and no interruption from any adjacent buildings
This was the second time at the retreat and yet again had an amazing weekend. ... Highly recommend Perfect for romantic getaway Very cleen, bed is so comfortable, hottub is amazing. We will definitely be booking again
Cottage was very compact and bijou but perfectly formed!
Very welcoming when we arrived. Beautiful property and spotlessly clean. All mod cons.
Oneup onedown, separate end of barn conversion with hot tub in small enclosed courtyard. Very good electrical heating downstairs and upstairs. Spacious bedroom with kingsize bed. Bathroom has sloping roof over the toilet so tall people beware. Clean, comfortable, but niggles. No instructions how to operate cooker, coffee machine, washing machine, wall heater never seen one like that before!. Wall clock had dead battery so it was right only twice per day. Rusted battery in remote for the radio. Overall impression is that it is well used but lacked attention in minor details. Helpful owner and their friends. Near a road so some traffic noise. New building site behind, again some noise. However, recommend it for a holiday.
We booked to use as a base to catch up with friends, it was perfect. The retreat was a lovely get away for two with the added bonus of a hot tub. The bed was so comfortable we slept in every morning a rare treat. The welcome pack included tea, milk and cakes what more could you need. Even after we left the service of returning our housekeeping deposit was returned within a day Amazing highly recommend
The Retreat that me and my partner stayed at was very warm and welcoming. The second we stepped foot inside the property, it felt like a mini home for the weekend straight away. There was absolutely nothing to fault and we knew if there was a problemissuequestion, our liaison was always a textcall away and someone would be out to deal with this within in a short space of time. The comfort of the bed was amazing, pull out sofas were relaxing and the hot tub was very enjoyable. We would very much so go again, 1010 recommend to anyone for a relaxing time away with your other half.
Was happy with everything!

We stayed over Christmas and had a great time. The Retreat was perfect for the two of us. Enjoyed use of the hot tub and surrounding areas. Had a slight issue with the fridge, sometimes seemed to be working fine and other times not as cold as it should be, ice box was not freezing properly. Would highly recommend. Nice welcome pack of milk, cookies, coffee pods & apple juice.
We stayed for a long weekend and we had the best time! The home owner was so helpful and so kind! We would definitely we booking up again and recommending to our friends!
Lovely property for a couple, secluded even though close to other properties. Comfy bed, bedding and towels. Could range of kitchen equipment. Comfortable sofa and choice of indoor and outdoor seating. Could be enhanced with outdoor solar lighting and consumables such as enough coffee pods for stay, a couple of washing tablets.
Esther
Had an enjoyable stay, just a few things which could be improved. Instructions for the TV we did finally get it working and coffee machine had to stick to instant coffee . Fridge plastic veg compartment was cracked so was unable to use it for fear of losing our good housekeeping bond, These are easily replaceable. Currently the field next door is a building site, with diggers working, all day, luckily we stayed at the weekend so only effected Fri Pm and Mon Am,

Excellent stay at The Retreat, lovely big comfy bed, very clean, hot tub was fab someone else commented on hooks for dressing gowns, they are in place now. Milk, apple juice and delicious lemon drizzle cake was a nice touch. We had everything we needed. Communication with owner was fab. We did have a problem with the heating, but the fire in the lounge warms the place very quickly, and there is a heater in the bedroom as well, which again, warms the place quickly. Apart from the towel rail in the bathroom the radiators are not really needed anyway. Yes, there is noise from the main road, but it didn't really bother us & we've in a culdesac at home. I would not advise walking to the pub, too dangerous. And yes, the TV is too high on the wall, but again, didn't spoil our stay. Would recommend based on cleanliness, comfort, hot tub and location plenty of places to visit within 1 hours drive.

The property was perfect for the 2 of us, very clean and the essentials are supplied. The hot tub was an added bonus and the best way to unwind from the day. We had a lovely time celebrating my partners 30th birthday here and we will be back!
What a lovely property, very clean has everything you need to relax. Really impressed with the facilities also what a lovely touch of the lemon drizzle cake etc left on our arrival. I know traffic noise had been mentioned in previously reviews , which nearly put me off booking but really wasn't a problem.
Very nice cottage small but ok for 2. could have done with more information inside the place. nothing explaining how to use any of the items ie coffee machine. music system &40we Think&41. electric cooker, were used to gas.Electric fire wasnt working just wanted it for the flame effect was very dusty so probarbly hasnt worked for a while.no egg cups and extremely small fridge couldnt fit in a few items. All just minor things which can be put right.
It was a really lovely cottage, the hot tub was lovely, lovely places to go see and such a beautiful town to be in! the people were so friendly. This is somewhere Id 100 go back to such a beautiful place to visit! Their is no bad feedback to give or even anything to improve! Me and my partner really enjoyed staying here! Such a great place to relax.

This was our second stay here as we love this part of the country. Lovely welcome pack especially the fresh milk. The cottage is great value for money. The hot tub was great but it was still in need of hooks nearer to it for our robes for when you get out on a chilly night. The cottage needs a bit of a spruce up especially the bathroom, there is no shelf to put a toothbrush etc. But the bed is amazing and really comfortable but limited space to store our clothes. The traffic noise is drowned out by the noise of the tub, so didn't bother us. Unfortunately, the road is too busy to walk on so no way you can go to the pub or restaurant in the village on foot. Lots of places to visit near by especially the castle at Dunster. Would recommend as a base to stay and for the hot tub!
Absolutely lovely place. .. it is on the main road but the noise didn't bother us. Perfect place just to get away and relax. We will be booking again soon. Highly recommended
Patrick
We really enjoyed our stay at The Retreat. It is in a lovely village where the local people are very friendly and helpful and in an ideal location for visiting Exmoor, the surrounding area and the coast. There are several places to visit if you are a National Trust or English Heritage member. There are also plenty of good places to eat which the owners recommended. Just a lovely cottage for two with the bonus of a hot tub.
Lovely little cottage, well presented, nice rural location. The only thing we didnt like was the sofa, not very comfy and didnt feel it was in keeping with the feel of the property. Felt like a dentist office
On a very noisy road, even through the night and early morning. Every day. Be weary if you wont a quiet retreat for a holiday.
My husband and I went here for 5 nights for our honeymoon, it was absolutely spotless, the bed was really big and comfy. The hot tub was just enough for 2 people, near to Minehead Beach and a couple of local pubs. Washerdryer provided, although the dryer is a little temperamental haha. Very low ceilings, my husband did have to crouch to use the toilet and shower. There is some oaf noise but not bad at all, however I don't think we quite understood how close the other cottages were to us, we heard noise from other residents and sharee the car park with them. The maintenance people walked into the hot tub area unannounced a couple of times to test the hot tub, my partner was lounging around half dressed and had to run upstairs the first time, and the second time I was alone in the house with the door open, and a man came in to the garden area, I would like to suggest for future reference that you announce yourselves, knock or inform the Residents before your arrival. Other feedback I would recommend that hooks are put somewhere for you to hang your towels up after shower or hot tub use. The WiFi is a little slow and the smart TV doesn't connect to it, so you are limited to the standard channels, but we used our laptop instead so it's OK. All in all it was a beautiful cottage, well presented, very clean, and just enough for 2 people for a few days.
The cottage was really lovely & clean, the hot tub was checked twice a day and we really needed it as it was the hottest week of the year. Only downside was the traffic noise as we are not used to it, but maybe made worse as the windows had to be open due to the heat. Would strongly recommend
Jessica
Lovely accommodation. Had to get used to the sound of the road traffic from the A39, least it wasn't a constant. Otherwise it was a great place.
We had a great weeks stay at The Retreat. The equipment and facilities were exactly as listed and the hot tub was checked daily. The only disadvantage was the traffic noise which we particularly noticed because our home is in a very quiet situation. Overall we had a great stay.
